We all have a story about how music changed our life. So we don't think there should be financial barriers to learning how to play music.
We've seen first hand how music lessons change, shape, and inspire our students. Our lessons are more than just learning music -- they're a place for our students, of all ages, to find a little joy and peace. Our goal is to provide free lessons and start-up supplies to anyone who wants them.
For 2019, we're raising funds to cover 20 music lesson scholarships, which includes a year's worth of 30-minute lessons from our experienced instructors, along with gear and supplies for the year. These community-funded scholarships will be 100% free for the student, with no requirements to apply or nominate.

The numbers
- One year of lessons and starting gear for a student is $1500. Our goal is to raise enough for 20 scholarships, which is a total of $30,000. This is our first priority.
- Along with this, we're raising funds to build our non-profit team. Right now, everyone on the non-profit side is a volunteer, including our directors. We'd love to raise money for stipends so we can bring in people like from you the community with fundraising and managerial skills. For this, we'd like to raise an additional $20,000.
The methods
- For the next year, we're raising money through events, online donations, corporate matching, and more. Our first event is June 24th, from 5-8 pm at Excelsior Brewing. We'll have student music, food, and fun. Suggested donation at the door is $20.
- You can donate online at any time here. Also click here for other ways we can use your help.
The process
- As we raise the scholarship money, we'll see you to nominate someone who wants music lessons -- but can't afford them. That person might be you, a neighbor, your kid's friend, a family member -- you can probably think of someone! The scholarships are for people you know would be enriched by music, but have financial barriers. There are no hoops to jump through. We'll let you know how to nominate someone.
- Once we receive nominations, we'll get in touch with the nominees. 20 students will receive year's worth of weekly, 30-minute lessons with an instructor on-site at The Music Coop on an instrument of their choice. They'll also receive, if needed, a starting instrument and gear for the instrument (strings, etc).
